Frequently asked questions
The best laminate flooring is a product whose specification suits your room, budget and daily routine. Compare its usage or abrasion rating, fitting system, texture and moisture-related features rather than judging quality by thickness alone. A busy hallway needs different priorities from a quiet bedroom. At DWF, we can help you compare the options and choose a suitable underlay for the selected floor.
Warm oak effects, natural mid-tones and decorative wood-inspired patterns are key looks for 2026. Herringbone and chevron offer a more distinctive layout, while a quieter plank design lets grain and texture lead. Our laminate collection includes ways to explore these styles. Choose a shade that works with your furniture and lighting so the floor feels right for your home beyond the current trend.
Laminate can generally be cleaned with a barely damp, well-wrung mop where the product's care instructions allow it. Sweep or vacuum with a hard-floor attachment first, and avoid soaking the floor or leaving water at the joints. Use a suitable laminate cleaner and wipe up spills promptly. Only use a steam mop if the specific flooring guidance expressly permits it.
Our laminate guidance gives an indicative lifespan of around 15–25 years, although lower-specification floors or heavy use can shorten that period. Product quality, correct fitting, foot traffic and maintenance all matter. Laminate cannot normally be sanded and refinished like timber, so protecting the surface and joints helps prolong its appearance. Check the selected product's warranty separately from this general lifespan estimate.
Standing water can damage standard laminate by entering joints and causing the fibreboard core to swell. A small spill wiped up quickly does not necessarily ruin the floor. Water-resistant and waterproof-labelled products offer different levels of protection, with conditions that vary by range. Choose a product suitable for the room, follow its fitting requirements and avoid prolonged moisture exposure even when enhanced protection is specified.
