What Is LVT Flooring?

Luxury vinyl tiles, or LVT flooring as it is more commonly known, is a type of flooring product that combines modern technology with fabulous designs to create a stylish flooring, without the price of solid wood or stone.

We know it can be hard to choose the right flooring for your home or commercial space, so we have put together all the most commonly asked questions about LVT flooring, so you know exactly what you are getting before you buy.

What is LVT flooring made from?

Our luxury vinyl tiles are made from several layers of PVC that are bonded together to form a tile. Some tiles have an underlay layer built in and all our tiles have a ‘wear’ layer to add durability and protection.

You can buy LVT flooring in both PVC and rigid PVC tiles.

It should not be confused with vinyl, which is sold in rolls.

What designs is it available in?

LVT flooring is manufactured with detailed designs and textures, offering an amazing realistic appearance, and in a range of designs and tile sizes - which is what makes it such a good, versatile option. From realistic wood finishes, in a variety of shades, patterns such as herringbone, to stone effects such as slate, there really is a design to suit all tastes and styles.

Because LVT is sold in boxes as tiles, rather than a vinyl roll, you can choose the way you want to lay your floor, whether in a parquet style or in rows, combine two different colours of LVT together or even add a feature strip to create a grouting effect similar to wood or stone.

What rooms can I fit in LVT flooring?

LVT flooring is one of the most versatile flooring ranges as it can be fitted in any room within your home. It is perfect for use in bathrooms and kitchens, owing to the fantastic waterproof qualities it offers. It can also be used with underfloor heating, however we would recommend the temperature must not exceed 27 degrees as this can cause lifting.

How do you install LVT flooring?

LVT flooring comes in two, easy installation options. Stickdown or Click.

Stickdown: This option means the tiles can be stuck directly to the subfloor using an adhesive. We recommend using our Impero All-In-One Adhesive. This water-based adhesive will provide your amazing new LVT flooring with protection from movement and prevent any lifting, whilst also being odourless, environmentally friendly, and suitable for underfloor heating.

Click system: This method makes installation simple and straightforward. You simply click each tile together with the next, to create a floor that does not require any glues or adhesives and can be easily taken up again if you wish to redecorate or redesign your room in the future.

Is it water-resistant?

All our LVT flooring is water-resistant, which means it can cope with the spills of daily life. However, if you are looking for a product that is 100% waterproof for installation in a kitchen or bathroom, then we would highly recommend our EvoCore range of flooring

How durable is LVT flooring?

Thanks to its compressed vinyl layers and clear protective finish, LVT flooring is remarkably durable. The ‘wear’ layer helps protect it against scratches and daily wear and tear, which makes it a hard-wearing option for those with families or pets.

How affordable is LVT flooring to purchase?

Compared to real wood or stone floors, luxury vinyl tiles are far more affordable and with current technology making LVT hardwearing, it can be a cost-effective option to achieve the finish you want, without the cost of installing real wood or stone floors.

How do I maintain LVT flooring?

Luxury Vinyl Tiles are quick and easy to maintain. Use a soft bristle broom to remove any loose dirt. Run over the tiles with a damp-mop as and when needed with clean water and a non-abrasive floor cleaner. Harsh cleaning chemicals should not be used on luxury vinyl flooring as it could cause discolouring. Leave to dry or wipe with a dry microfiber mop to finish.

Do I need an underlay?

If purchasing stickdown LVT flooring, then as you are glueing it to the sub-floor, you cannot have an underlay, however, most manufacturers will add an underlay layer to this type of LVT, so it is not needed.

If you choose the ‘click’ option, then you can add an underlay, we would especially recommend this if you have or are planning to install underfloor heating.

Why choose LVT?

Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) are renowned for the ability to imitate high-end flooring designs to an impeccable standard. Built with multiple layers, the robust flooring not only looks amazing but is the toughest flooring on the market too. Easy to clean, easy to maintain and easy to fit, it is no wonder LVT has become the flooring of choice for many UK homeowners.
